Department programs focus on the scientific study of exercise, movement, and human occupation, and on the application of this study to health, physical education, and functional performance.
The department offers three undergraduate program options leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. Teacher Education students are certified to teach physical education in elementary and secondary schools. The science-based Exercise and Movement Science option prepares students for graduate or professional study, while the Athletic Training option prepares certified athletic trainers.
The department's Physical Education Activity Program offers theory, activity, and leadership courses to improve understanding, appreciation, and use of the body in movement and sports. PE Activity Program classes are open to all university students. Course areas include dance, sports, aquatics, outdoor pursuits, fitness, and martial arts. Leadership courses train students for roles in recreational settings.
