Theatre and Drama Minor
For Elementary Education Students
The Theatre and Drama minor may be completed by students in Elementary
Education. The minor in Theatre and Drama requires a minimum of 22 credits,
including the course work below. A 2.75 grade point average is required, based
on all Theatre and Drama minor course work taken on the UW-Madison campus. Students should consult with Professor Manon van de Water, 6178 Vilas

regarding this minor. Also consult with advising staff at Education Academic

Students should be aware that the theatre minor requires production classes.
Theatre production classes sometimes require attendance at non-traditional
times. Please consider this time commitment in choosing your minor. Confer with
the minor advisor for additional information. Courses are Theatre and Drama unless otherwise indicated.
Core of Studies
Complete the following course work:
- 120 Introduction to Dramatic Arts, 3
- 150 Introduction to Acting, 3
- 362 Drama in Education, 3. Includes practicum component.
- Choose one option:
- 462 Theatre for Young Audiences: Production, 6. This course is a
capstone experience that includes participation as an actor or crew member
in a university theatre-for-young-audiences production, developing study
guides for teachers around the production, developing a follow-up drama
workshop, and implementing this workshop in individual classrooms following
the production. IMPORTANT: Space is limited; enrollment by
instructor consent only.

Summer Drama Institute course (must be approved by advisor). Summer Drama
Institute courses are 3-credit courses that consist of week-long intensive
classes and an independent study component to be determined by the
instructor and to be completed within one month of the start of the course.
Summer Drama Institute courses carry an additional fee.

Suggested Sequence of Courses
Some courses are offered annually or bi-annually. Students should check with
the department about when specific courses are offered.
- Sophomore Year: 120, 150, 362
- Junior Year: Production (except 368) and Theatre Research courses
- Senior Year: Education and 368 (if selected for Production)
- Theatre 462 recommended for the last semester of study.
