Professional Education Requirements: Music Education

Development, minimum of 3 credits; select one from:

• Ed Psych 331 Human Development from Childhood through Adolescence, 3
• Ed Psych 321 Human Development in Adolescence, 3
• Ed Psych 320 Human Development in Infancy and Childhood, 3

Learning, minimum of 3 credits: Ed Psych 301 Human Abilities and Learning.

Foundations of the Profession, minimum of 3 credits; select one from:

• Ed Pol 300 School and Society
• Ed Pol 412 History of American Education (crosslisted as History 412)
• Ed Pol 500 Social Issues in Education

Special Education, 3 credits; select one from:

• Curric 506 Strategies for Inclusive Schooling, 3
• Curric 565 Methods for Special Education in the Arts, 2 cr (if offered) and Curric 566 Practicum in Special Education in the Arts, 1

Literacy, including Reading, 3 credits: Curric 305 Integrating the Teaching of Reading with Other Language Arts, 3. (Also meets Communication B of the General Education requirements.)

Methods. Students will select the courses consistent with their desired teaching certification area(s); see the music advisor. A minimum of two of the following is required (4 credits):

• 332 Teaching Choral Music in the Secondary School, 2
• 333 Teaching General Music in the Elementary School, 2
• 334 Teaching General Music in the Secondary School, 2
• 335 Teaching Instrumental Music in the Elementary School, 2
• 336 Teaching Instrumental Music in the Secondary School, 2

Practicum: Students must complete 1 credit of practicum concurrently with each methods course. 337 Practicum in Teaching Music, 1.

Student Teaching: Students will enroll in the appropriate student teaching course(s), for a minimum of 12 credits.

• 466 Student Teaching in Music--Elementary
• 467 Student Teaching in Music—Secondary

Additional State Licensing Requirements

Additional Wisconsin State certification and licensing requirements include Minority Group Relations and Conflict Resolution.
