Professional Education Requirements: Chinese Education

Development, 3 credit minimum: Ed Psych 331 Human Development from Childhood through Adolescence, 3 OR both Ed Psych 320 Human Development in Infancy and Childhood, 3 AND Ed Psych 321 Human Development in Adolescence, 3

Learning, 3 credit minimum: Ed Psych 301 Human Abilities and Learning, 3

Foundations of the Profession, 3 credit minimum; select one from the following:

Special Education, 3 credits: Curric 506 Strategies for Inclusive Schooling.

Literacy, including Reading, 6 credits: Curric 305 Integrating the Teaching of Reading with Other Language Arts, 3 and Curric 307 Methods in Teaching of Chinese, 3 cr (305 also fulfills Communication B of the campuswide General Education requirements.)

Educational Computing; select one:

Methods: Curric 307 Methods in Teaching Chinese*, 3

Practicum: Curric 207 Practicum in Teaching Chinese*, 2

Student Teaching: Curric 407 Student Teaching in Chinese, 4-12* (offered spring semester only). Because of limited field placement opportunities in Chinese, students may be placed at a considerable distance from Madison. Students completing a major and a minor will usually student teach in both subjects during the same semester for a total of 12 credits. Returning students already certified in another area may be allowed to complete an abbreviated student teaching experience; see the Chinese advisor.

*This program prepares students to teach Chinese at the Early Childhood through Adolescence levels (approximately grades pre-kindergarten through high school). Methods, Practicum, and Student Teaching must include experiences at both the elementary and secondary levels, possibly requiring additional course work than what is listed above.

Additional State Licensing Requirements

Additional Wisconsin State certification and licensing requirements include Minority Group Relations and Conflict Resolution.
